This week, I was thrilled when this young lady came into class with something she had written at home. I just had to reach for the iPad to record the moment. Enjoy!

An example of Room 6 writing. Fantastic!
Our Trip to the Port, by Caspar Denyer
Last week we went to the Port of Tauranga When we got to the port we saw a big cruise ship. On the side of the cruise ship there was some life boats.
Caspar, I love the detail you have used in this writing. You told your audience exactly where the life boats were. You have also told us "when" the trip was. Keep up the great work! Mrs Devitt.

Room 6 Engineers.
As you know, we have been looking at "boating in our community" this term. Following our fantastic trip to the port last week, it has been wonderful to see some children continuing their study at home. Aidan and Declan both designed and built a boat which we tested out in class. I was so impressed to hear them talk about design aspects such as width and balance. Well done boys. We are so lucky to have you in our class.

Making a Boat that Floats!
We had so much fun yesterday when we made boats in class. We used a bottle lid, a stick, play dough and some paper. Everyone thought this would be so easy. However, then we tested them out and many of us were so surprised to see that our boats actually sank. What would we do? After lots of modifying, we changed our design and Lauchlan was the first to float his boat. Well done Lauchlan. Soon after, we had many more successes. We learned lots about the need for balance. We also did a lot of work on our "negotiation" skills!
Well done Room 6. It was so good to see you all thoroughly engaged in your learning. Let's see if you can apply what you have learned so far when we build our cardboard boats for the pool in week 8. I have a feeling some of you may get wet rather quickly! Great work

Learning Links
I have started a learning links page on our blog. Just click on it and you will be directed to some games that I have chosen to reinforce what we are learning in class. I will continue to add to this throughout the year. Have fun learning!
Week 5 update
Hi everyone! What a week! Thankfully, I am feeling much better but the flu is not fun for anyone! Thank you so much for all your get well messages. I am just glad to be back at school and doing what I love. I am posting a link for a literacy idea that I think is awesome. We will be doing this in class and therefore any practice would be fantastic. Have fun, regards, Corrinne
