Our Fabulous Readers

IMG 1092 from Pahoia School on Vimeo.
This week,  I had two girls who eagerly asked me to record their reading! They had read this short play during guided reading and loved it s much that they wanted to see it on our blog. They needed two other characters and so asked two boys to join them. The green screen behind them was used for a different project-We are learning to use the alpha tool! Watch this space!
Girls, I kept my promise. You are on the blog. Enjoy!

Rosie's Farm

This week, we had a fabulous time when the show "Rosie's Farm" came to our school. We had lots of fun while we learned how milk gets into the cartons that are in our fridges. We also learned about the nutritional value of milk.

Puppies, Puppies, Puppies!

Thank you Theo for grabbing my iPad and taking this photo. If you look very carefully, you might be able to see one of Renee's puppies who is snuggled up in my hands. A huge thanks to Renee's Mum and Dad for bringing these little darlings into our class. We loved meeting your babies.

Maths strategy in action.

This week, some children have been learning to add and subtract using counting in tens. This clever girl came up with this strategy to help. I just had to grab my iPad to share such learning in action with you. Awesome!

Mingling Maths

Mingling Maths from Pahoia School on Vimeo.
This week during maths, we got outside and....mingled! We are looking at groups of numbers and this was an awesome way to involve everyone. We all had such fun! When we went back inside we wrote on the board some of the groups we had discovered. For example, we know that there are 14 groups of 2 in Room 6. We wrote this as 14x2...Wow! Multiplication....just like that. Great.

Great reading in Room 6

A Terrible Fright performed by the Giraffes. from Pahoia School on Vimeo.

This week, the giraffes blew me away with their reading. They picked up this short play and went with it. It was so good that I grabbed my iPad to record it for you all to enjoy. I especially love how you are holding your books...Away from your mouths. This shows me that you are aware of your audience. Fantastic! Well done giraffes. You rock!

We are the STAR team!

Well done Room 6. We got the class shield this week at assembly. You have all worked so hard and deserve such an award. If you haven't checked out our room recently, come in and enjoy the children's amazing work. Have a great holiday and I will see you in Term 3!

Evidence of good literacy practice

Evidence Of Good Literacy Practice from Pahoia School on Vimeo.
I know I am always talking about the reading strategies! As part of our every day programme, we assess what we are doing. Here is such an example. During a one on one reading session, I lifted my iPad and recorded this. We watched this together and discussed what we could see. Declan used some of the strategies to tackle this text. Can you spot them? Well done Declan. I am so proud of your progress. Keep practising those strategies!
