Float or sink?

As our focus is on technology, we will be making our very own boats. We plan to actually test these in our school pool. The boats will be big enough to take passengers, so the design is very important. Today we looked at materials that sink or float. We also looked at the shape and design of certain objects. We had heaps of fun doing this and had a great discussion afterwards.

The Zebras take the stage!

Today, the Zebras were getting used to being recorded during guided reading. The video camera on the iPad allows us to do this very easily. The children really enjoyed looking at what has been recorded and we had a great discussion about what they thought they sounded like and what they could do to make their reading sound even better. I am always amazed at how much the children pick up by doing this. Not only am I getting the chance to assess the students, they are becoming brilliant self-evaluaters too!
