Today, we have had a great time learning about adjectives. We started by having our lovely model Sequoia standing in front of the white board so that we could think of adjectives that describe her. Then we had a go on ourselves. We all thought about the words that we could use to describe ourselves. Then we asked each other to add to our adjective bank. It was lovely listening to the children talk to each other about this and they certainly came up with awesome adjectives. Great work Room 6!

More successful readers in Room 6
Today the Zebras did a bit of reader's theatre. They enjoyed having Mr Wadsworth watch them and now it's your turn. Aren't they superb!

Well done Landen!
Last night I had the privilege of accompanying Landen and his Poppa to the MADE awards event at Baycourt theatre. Landen was nominated for the Best Actor award. This is amazing considering nominees were chosen from across New Zealand. Furthermore, Landen was the only junior student! ON the night he came second. Well done Landen! I was so proud of you. You represented Pahoia School admirably. Everyone in Room 6 is sooooooooooo proud of you.

Maths over the holidays
Here is a website you may find interesting. It is full of practical ways to help your children continue to learn even though it is holiday time. I think the maths is great but you could use any of the links. Have fun

End of term
Hi everyone! We had a great shared lunch as a class reward today. Thanks to everyone for sending or bringing a plate. We had a fabulous feast. For those who were with us...we hope you enjoyed watching our movie premiere as much as we did. If you couldn't make it...don't panic, I will put it on the blog very soon. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for all your support over term 3. We have had an amazing journey (Some of which has been captured in the attached slide-show). I know I keep saying this...but you DO have wonderful children and I feel very privileged being their teacher. Have a lovely break and I look forward to seeing you all in Term 4.

As I have said in our homework sheet this week...It would be awesome if each child could continue to read over the holidays. You may find the above site helpful. Some of the stories are not available in our area but many are. Tools like this can keep our readers engaged in learning even during term break time. Have fun!

Pointing out some useful literacy websites
Hi everyone, I have added a link to some sites that I find very useful. In particular, when you enter the main site, scroll down and click on word wheel 1. It requires a little bit of practise but well worth it. Have a go. I will be adding some maths links in the near future.

Here is one of the projects we have been working on this term. As most of you will know, we have made a movie called "The Brave Mouse." In keeping with our school focus..."change" we have researched some of the games and activities children played or participated in, in times gone by. Puppet shows were very popular. The children in Room 6 each made a puppet of their character in the movie. We had such fun (including practically swimming in glue) making our puppets and today we all put together a puppet show. enjoy!

An update on the bubbles!
Here is some of the writing we did after our bubble experience...
Anton
Bubbles remind me of a golden treasure box. They float in the air and then they will pop! Bubbles are so slippery.
Landen
Bubbles pop when they touch your hand. Bubbles look like the world. They are like gliding birds.
Dillan
Bubbles look like a rainbow when the sun shines on it. They feel like soap but when they popped your hands were bubbly. They remind me of aeroplanes because aeroplanes float in the sky too.
Stella
Bubbles look like rainbows when they float. When I touched them they popped and felt gooey. They look like magical stars when thy float.
Ruby
Bubbles look like stars when they shine in the sun. When I touch them they pop! They remind me of flowers because they float in the wind.
Curtis
Bubbles look like rainbows. The bubbles feel like soap. They remind me of glass. I think bubbles are made out of helium gas.
Liam
Bubbles are sticky and soft. They remind me of the earth spinning around the sun. They look like tiny moons except the moon is much bigger.

Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!
Today we went outside to write! We had such fun chasing and popping bubbles. We had lots of discussion about great adjectives. I was thrilled to see the children think about the words they liked and then go and write them down without any help from me. I'm sure we will have great descriptive writing tomorrow. Fabulous!

Welcome back
As you can see we have had a great start to term 3. This morning Simon (thanks to his Mum) brought in his two new pet lambs. They are called Maisie and Lilac. In Room 6, the children are learning how to record both video and camera shots. These great photos were taken by Matisse. Well done! (I think in one shot you have even captured the peculiar wet spot...but we'll not mention that!)You can also see Landen using the flip video. He kept his hand really steady. Great work Thursday camera crew!
A very big welcome to our five new students; Niamh, Ruby, Maia, Matthew and Jamie. We love having you in Room 6. Just a reminder...there will be a short meeting for new parents in class next Tuesday at 3pm. I am looking forward to meeting you then.
In closing, parents...I love to hear from you! It is especially great to be able to join in any celebrations that may occur in your family. I am always very appreciative of the help that you give. If you have any spare time and would like to do some parent help...let me know! Thanks again, Corrinne

Almost term 3
I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday. I am enjoying lots of walks with Murphy and catching up with some friends. I have also been busy planning for term 3....exciting! Our focus will be Health and P.E. As part of our literacy unit, room 6 will be making a movie....more to follow!
Until then, enjoy your time away from school. Remember to keep reading and practising your words from the chart I sent home with you. I'll see you soon, Love Mrs Devitt.

Successful readers in room 6
Here are a few of the monkeys reading to us in Room 6. We have been practising reading to an audience. We tried to make our voices loud enough, hold our books at a good level and use some expression. We think we did very well. What do you think?
Room 6 the expert egg bouncers
Did you know that eggs can bounce? We did an experiment in room 6 to find out if eggs can bounce. After two weeks soaked in vinegar an egg can bounce. If you leave it in water for the same amount of time....it will just crack. We had lots of fun doing this and have started to record our findings.

A whole new look at recycling!
The children in Room 6 are soooooooooooo creative! We have been looking at how we can change our behaviour so that our environment can be changed for the better. This week we have begun to study the Hector's Dolphin which is only found in New Zealand. Many of these wonderful creatures die each year due to pollution in the waterways. Room 6 has been looking at the four R's. Reduce, recycle, repair and re-use. As you can see we have had a brilliant time recycling some household rubbish into fantastic art. Everyone was so excited....that is why the amazing creations came home today! Thank you Stella for joining us. We love having you with us.

Visitors in room 6
If you come into room 6, you may notice some visitors who happen to be sitting on top of the cupboard (compound word) at the back of the class. Yes! We have had an invasion of grass heads.
As you know, we have been focusing on procedural writing this term. Our grass heads gave us a brilliant opportunity to practise what we have learned. At the end of the term, you can have a read what we have written in our portfolios. Until then, enjoy the photos.
